Over the years, we’ve done several experiments with unusual vape flavours.
Very often we’ve done this for a bit of fun, but sometimes the results have surprised us.
A good few years ago, for example, we went to a vape show with a small range of very unusual flavours.
One of them was barbecue sauce flavour.
As you’d expect, most people absolutely hated.....
And How You Could Help Science!
Critics of vaping often point out that “we don’t have enough long-term studies” to really know how much risk vaping poses to users. While the Royal College of Physicians and Public Health England have famously estimated that vaping isn’t likely to pose more than 5% of the risk of smoking, there is still some.....
For the first time, we have a study which looks at the effect of vaping on the lungs over the long term. The result? No negative impact on the lungs over a period of several years.
Most vapers are ex-smokers, and could be expected to have some lung damage. To get round this problem, the researchers decided to seek out.....
Smokers have a reputation for having bad teeth. They get “nicotine stains,” people say, turning their teeth from a brilliant white into a dull yellow-brown.
Faced with comments like this, most vapers would rightly point out that nicotine in pure form is actually colourless. It seems obvious that – much like with the health risks – the problem for your.....
If you've heard of the US surgeon generals report on e-cigarettes, you're probably aware that it is far from positive.
The report:
painted a picture of an e-cigarette epidemic amongst youth smokers
ignored rapidly falling smoking rates amongst youth since e-cigs became popular
used data from smoking studies to reach conclusions on nicotine in vapour
ignored the potential health benefits.....
The FDA’s disastrous deeming regulations for e-cigarettes are all based around the legal definition of “tobacco product”:
“Any product made or derived from tobacco that is intended for human consumption, including any component, part, or accessory of a tobacco product.”
This means that e-juice is a “tobacco product” because the nicotine used is “made or derived from tobacco.” Devices and other.....
Harm reduction.
That’s been the key argument for switching from cigarettes to vaping.
But what if vaping didn’t just to lead to harm reduction but harm reversal?
Professor Polosa has been studying the effect vaping has on patients with blood pressure and asthma, and kindly agreed to answer a few of our questions.
What is it in smoking that leads to higher blood pressure?
The.....
My cat is a curious sort. If there’s somewhere you don’t want her to go or something you don’t want her to chew on, you better believe she’ll do it.
So when I started having bottles of e-juice around the house, I was understandably cautious. A tragic story of a puppy that died after getting access to some e-juice drives.....
Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos does a huge amount for the vaping community. He's a prolific researcher and he spends a lot of time refuting anti-vaping junk science.
In response to his efforts to get a study retracted, he received the following email from a consumer:
This heartbreaking story cuts to the core of a big problem...
the use of flawed studies to convince.....
Could water vapour from e-cigs collect in your lungs, and become a breeding ground for germs?
That's the advice some health professionals are giving. And because of this, some smokers are still smoking, despite the fact Public Health England believes e-cigs are at least 95% safer than smoking.
Here’s a recent email I received:
Hi, James
Sorry to bother you, but I wonder could.....
Like many people, Bernd Mayer had encountered the widespread claims that 60 mg of nicotine is enough to kill an average-sized adult. But unlike most people, he didn’t accept it at face value. He went to look for the actual evidence.
After following a chain of “circular and often misleading references” he eventually found where the figure had come from:.....
Updated November 2017 with the first long term data for the effect of vaping on the lungs.
Whether lurking in the comments section of a vaping-related news story or in a beer-soaked pub conversation, most vapers will eventually encounter the piece of folk wisdom that:
inhaling anything that isn’t air isn’t good for your lungs.
We might not like it, but it.....
Journalists, scientists and public health experts have all had a lot to say about electronic cigarettes recently.
As you’d expect when a subject’s as controversial as this one, what they’ve been saying covers a wide spectrum of accuracy.
Some of it’s highly reliable, some might benefit from a less biased interpretation and of course quite a bit is just wrong.
And then there’s.....

There are 2.5 million vapers in the UK. An estimated 30 million people have vaped in America, and there are many millions more around the world.
Two of them have experienced a case of lipoid pneumonia.
Both were former smokers.
Despite the numbers, some now believe e-cigarettes can cause lipoid pneumonia.
As we know, smoking carries a hugely increased risk of an.....
Updated by Lee Johnson October 2018
Time after time we have been told that there is no proof that e-cigs are better for your health than tobacco cigarettes.
In doing so, the anti-ecig lobby, have ignored the advice and research of the very experts and scientists who are at the forefront of electronic cigarette research.
So while in the past we’ve looked.....
